RESEARCH INTERESTS
Sinead Smith graduated from University College Dublin with a BSc in Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics. She obtained a PhD from Dublin City University based on Epstein-Barr virus infection. Subsequently Asst. Prof. Smith carried out postdoctoral research at Trinity College’s Institute of Molecular Medicine on Toll-like receptor signalling in response to Helicobacter pylori, before spending almost 2 years at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York investigating Notch signalling in inflammatory macrophages. She returned to Trinity College Dublin in 2013 as a Joint Ussher Assistant Professor between the Department of Clinical Medicine and the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Her research interests include host responses to gastro-intestinal infection and H. pylori antibiotic resistance, with a view to developing new effective treatment strategies.
